Gythion

Gythion is a charming old town that rises around the harbor area up on the hillside. It has along promenade with Taverns and Cafes spread along. On the harbor side you can find some nice old house with iron balconies and facades that speak of a time long ago. Banks with money machines and shopping facilities are also found.

The about 7 km long sandy beach of Mavrovouni starts about 2 km south of Gythion. It is a well-known area for Windsurfers. Also you can find nests of the protected sea turtle species Caretta-Caretta during the summer.

Distance to Kalamata Airport ca. 2 – 2 ½ hrs (110 km south of Kalamata).
